Detailed Itinerary
Half day tour
8.00 When our guide picks you up from your accommodation, the half-day tour to learn about French culture in Hanoi by cyclo or cycling begins. The first place we go is the St. Joseph’s Cathedral, whose design has been compared to that of Notre Dame de Paris. When the Church was inaugurated in December 1886, it was among the first buildings erected by the French colonial authority in Indochina. The oldest church in Hanoi is this one.
Keep going on Cyclo through the Sofitel Legend and the tree-lined boulevard to reach the Hanoi Opera House. It is regarded as one of Hanoi’s architectural icons and was based on the Palais Garnier, the oldest of the two opera houses in Paris. The National Museum of Vietnamese History, a former archaeological research facility of the French School of the Far East under French colonial authority, is located behind the Hanoi Opera House. It is regarded as a synthesis of traditional Vietnamese architecture, also known as Indochina architecture, and French colonial architecture.
Continue to Long Bien Bridge, a historic French cantilever bridge constructed between 1898 and 1902 that spans the Red River. It is the only steel bridge of any length to preserve the lovely early 20th-century architectural design in Vietnam.
Visit the Dong Xuan Market in the Old Quarter, which was initially constructed in 1889 by the French authority. Today, it is Hanoi’s biggest covered market, where wholesalers sell everything from clothing to groceries to household items.
It’s time to relax like a typical Hanoian. Take a seat at a sidewalk café, sample some “petit pain” or miniature baguettes, and sip on some coffee while mingling with the community and exchanging cultural perspectives. At 12:00, return to your hotel.
Extend your time to full day tour
Make a pit break at a charming eatery on Hoang Dieu Street so you can enjoy your supper in a tranquil and natural setting.
Continue with our journey as we ramble through some of Hanoi’s most picturesque tree-lined streets, including Phan Dinh Phung, Hoang Dieu, and Le Hong Phong. dracontomelum trees in abundance, with their yellow leaves falling in the early summer, making for a really romantic scene. The previous Indochina Governor’s Office is now the Presidential Palace.
We head to the botanical garden to further unwind while watching the sun’s rays filter through the foliage on a sunny afternoon. The French also constructed this garden. There is a stunning natural lake, a mild hill, lots of grass, and twisting roads all covered in dense foliage.
The last thing we advise (you decide) is to visit Hoa Lo Prison. This location, where French colonialists had constructed in 1896, is now recognized as having significant historical significance.
